Sydney Museum of
Contemporary Art
The Museum of Contemporary
Arts (MCA) is the only museum in Australia
that is dedicated to
collecting,
interpreting and exhibiting contemporary art
from all over the world. It has a program of
exhibitions that continually changes
providing people with something new every
time they visit.
The museum can be found on the foreshore of
the Sydney Harbour in West Circular Quay.
The museum’s location marks the spot where
the First Fleet in Port Jackson landed in
1788.
It is easily accessible as it is close
to all forms of public transport terminals
including train, bus
and ferry.
The MCA in Sydney is the legacy of artist
John Power. He was an Australian expatriate
who lived
from 1881 to 1943. When he passed
away, John Power left his massive personal
fortune to the University of Sydney with the
intention of helping the educational
institution inform and educate
people in the
field of contemporary visual arts. In
November 1991, the museum was opened to the
public.
One of the popular features of the museum is
the MCA Café. It offers breathtaking views
of Circular Quay along with modern
Australian fine wine and cuisine. The
award-winning café is the perfect place
to
have lunch as part of the museum tour.
