Crown Casino
The Crown Casino and
Entertainment Complex is one of Australia’s
most visited attractions.
It is located by the Yarra
River in Melbourne. With over two thousand
poker machines and three
hundred game tables, it is
also the largest casino in Australia and in
the entire southern Hemisphere.
The casino complex opened in 1997. It was
designed by a group of architects including
the famous
Daryl Jackson who also
designed Fox Studios, the Green Square
Project, the Australian Greenhouse Office
and the Brindabella Business Park.
The Crown Casino and Entertainment Complex
is one of the Southbank area’s major
features in the central business district.
The complex’s promenade is integrated into
the Southbank Promenade waterfront. The
popular and very dynamic Crown Casino began
operations in 1994 at the World Trade Center
by the north bank of the Yarra River. During
the much awaited opening night, actress
Rachel Griffiths ran topless through the
casino. In 1997, Crown Casino moved to its
current location at Southbank. It is open 24
hours everyday except on Christmas, Anzac
Day and Good Friday.
Crown Casino features six main games: Craps,
Black Jack, Pai Gow, Baccarat, Roulette and
Poker.
Aside from the casino itself, the complex
also has nightclubs, restaurants and fast
food outlets, shops, designer boutiques, an
electronic games arcade, a bowling alley and
a Village Cinema complex.
